Bigger is Better

One of the more prevalent window trends for 2016 is larger windows. The advent of more energy efficient windows allows the use of much larger windows without sacrificing energy costs. In fact; it may help to reduce your energy costs. By allowing more natural light into your home, you may be less inclined to turn on the interior lights and save electricity.

Transom Windows

Many new homes have taller ceilings which creates a great opportunity to add transom windows or other architectural windows above the main windows. These windows allow more natural light to enter your home as well as adding some style to the room.

Colored Window Frames

The most common color for window frames and the surrounding trim is white or an off white. However; one of the window trends this year is selecting a complimentary color for your trim. This can vary from a subtle tan color to match your brick or far bolder colors like dark brown and deep red.

Improved Functionality

Double-Hung Windows are still the most popular type of windows used in new home construction. One of the new window trends for 2016 is reverting back to large casement windows. In recent years; casement windows have become more reliable with easy-to-use cranks. Not only do they look great, they also offer the ability to easily control ventilation throughout your home.
Sliding doors are also making a comeback. They allow ample amount of light into the kitchen or family room, while also providing easy access to the rear deck. A virtual must if you have small children in your home.

Vinyl vs Wood

Wood windows are still popular for their rich appearance. But there is a trend towards vinyl windows which can be more energy efficient, have a lower initial cost, and require less maintenance. Manufacturers of vinyl windows now offer textured styles that have the appearance of natural wood and are available in a multitude of colors.

Energy Efficient Windows

It seems that each and every year, windows become more energy efficient. So we can’t say that installing energy efficient windows is one of the new window trends for 2016, but we can say that this is an ongoing trend. If you live in an older home, you should seriously consider upgrading your windows to take advantage of the new products on the market today to reduce your monthly expenses.
